Muir Woods National Monument tour: Hotel pickup in San Francisco starts early for the drive north across the Golden Gate Bridge, meaning you’ll reach Muir Woods before many other tours arrive. On your way out of the city, see the Palace of Fine Arts and the Presidio.

Muir Woods National Monument is home to a pristine forest of California coastal redwoods, which are some of the planet’s tallest and oldest trees with heights that can reach 250 feet (76 meters). You have some time here to wander through the grove of giant sequoias and cross over mossy streams. Your guide will tell you about the local vegetation and wildlife along the nature trail. Then return to the tour vehicle for the drive further north into wine country.

Wine country tour: When you reach your first winery in Sonoma County’s Carneros region, you can explore the grounds, enjoy photo ops of the vineyard and sample a variety of wines in a welcoming atmosphere. For lunch, guests can choose one of two lunch options. The first is to venture out on their own and try one of the many cafés and restaurants located in the plaza. The second option is to upgrade their wine country experience to the next level with a private seated gourmet food and wine pairing experience at a local restaurant. They will enjoy delicious local food paired with a collection of California wines. After being greeted with Sonoma Valley cheeses and sparkling wine, guests may select a course such as minestrone Soup with navy beans and vegetables, pasta with either a beef and pork sauce or arugula-almond pesto sauce or grilled salmon with seasonal vegetables and balsamic reduction. Afterward, continue your tour to your second and third wineries in Sonoma County or Napa County for more tastings. Enjoy a leisurely stop at each winery, and you’ll have the chance to taste 3 to 5 wines of different varietals, from white to red to sparkling. Tasting fees are included, and you may purchase bottles not available in retail stores to take home. See below for a sample of wineries you may visit.

Your day trip ends with the drive back across the Golden Gate Bridge. Admire views of the vast Pacific and the rugged coastline before hotel drop-off.

Redwoods & Wine Country Escape with Gourmet Food & Wine Pairing upgrade: Discover Muir Woods National Monument, Sonoma & Napa Valley in 1 Day and enjoy an exclusive three-course gourmet meal and wine pairing. (Lunch for children not included in the rate and needs to get paid at the restaurant).

NOTE: Tastings are usually held at Kieu Hoang Winery, Muscardini Cellars and Mayo Family Winery, but locations are subject to change, depending on availability.

My mother travelled from MS and GA for our annual mother daughters trip. We booked the wine country and Muir Woods excursions(the one that included the lunch and extra wine tasting). It was fantastic it completely exceeded our expectations. Our tour guide Ben was phenomenal and always checked in with us throughout each of the experiences. He was very knowledgeable about San Fran and gave a city historical tour as we travelled to our respective excursion locations. Our fellow tourist were the best!!!! Our bus and group was a complete vibe. Everyone left feeling as though we knew each other for years. I would highly recommended this excursion to anyone. Also, I’m not sure about the negative reviews because booking up to the excursion was a great experience for us.

I very highly recommend this tour. Muir Woods was a good amount of time, just not enough to get to the top but the walking around was great. The wineries had pretty delicious wine. I only regret not buying a bottle at the first winery. If you get the lunch, it did seem worth it to me, the food was good and paired with three wines as well. You get plenty of alcohol the whole trip. I only bought one extra glass. The tour guide, Mike was super fun and knowledgeable. 10/10 would do again.

Muir Woods and wine tasting in wine country combo!

Tour guide was awesome! He made the trip...My only complaint was the pre-paid meal. Staff was confused and very disorganized. Restaurant didn't require vaccine cards/ID and all pre-paid were seated at same table. I was uncomfortable since I didn't know their vaccine status. 1st wine pairing didn't come until after we finished 1st course.

The trip to Miur woods was perfect! Kimmy is great tour operator, she is very knowledgeable and personable. We loved the fact that she gave us all a history lesson using facts and kept timeliness in a truthful order regarding the indigenous, the missionaries, the Civil matters of California etc... the wine tasting was incredible and learned so much about the wine and businesses. we had a great time with kimmy and highly recommend her and extraordinary tours for any of your getaway needs!

The best tour of San Francisco - Muir Woods, Sonoma and Napa
Ray_R
, Oct 2021
I have been going on several tours in San Francisco with various tour companies in the last 10 years and this tour was really the BEST! I have taken this same tour about 6 years ago and I thought that was great. I was really not very excited as I thought I was as I have been visited Napa, Sonoma and Muir Woods a few times. But guess what, I think I will do this again with Extranomical. The crowd was absolutely fun and Dustin was a heck of a driver and a tour guide. He was so knowledgeable and his knowledge of the place and the vineyards was phenomenal. I also lived in San Francisco over 10 years ago and have been coming back 2-4 times a year for work and leisure. This time I have appreciated going on a tour and having visited vineyards that I haven't been before gives me a whole new perspective. I have relatives in the Bay Area and I have already encouraged them to take this tour as it really gives you a whole new concept. The day was perfect! This is the best time to visit SFO. Thanks Dustin for a great tour. His choice of music was great as well.
