Return Details

Returns to original departure point
In the morning, meet your air‐conditioned coach in the French Quarter and settle in for the approximately 30‐minute ride to the town of Jean Lafitte, a historic fishing village named for a notorious 19th‐century pirate and privateer. Located deep in the wetlands at the edge of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park, this town offers an authentic look at Cajun culture and local enterprise, including logging, plantation agriculture and a rich – and often grisly – tradition of animal trapping.

Before heading out on the water, pop into the albino alligator exhibit and grab a delectable shrimp Poboy to go (own expense).  Enjoy the proximity to the water surface and warm breeze as you zip through the bayou.  Spot lurking alligators, snakes, raccoons and giant river rodents called nutria. Savor the moments of calm when the boat slows and your native captain shares stories and facts about the area’s history and the surrounding wildlife – and maybe even interacts with an animal or two!

Your bayou adventure ends with a return to the French Quarter by coach, arriving in mid‐afternoon.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Airboat Adventures
Travel by air-conditioned coach from central New Orleans to the nearby fishing village of Jean Lafitte, named after an 18th-century smuggler. Home to a variety of diverse cultures, this area surrounded by Lousiana bayous has been the site of extensive logging operations, sugar and rice plantations and animal trapping enterprises over the years. Today, the people's simple way of life is a marked contrast to the hustle-bustle of New Orleans. In Jean Lafitte, you can get some snacks (own expense) and check out an albino alligator exhibit before boarding your airboat, a vessel that relies on an aircraft-type propeller mounted on its back to move it forward. Feel the wind in your hair as your move swiftly over the wetlands. Your native boat captain will talk about the history and culture of the area and point out wildlife as you travel. See lots of alligators lurking in the marshes, as well as local birds, raccoons and nutria -- giant river rodents that call the bayous home. Conclude your 4-hour family-friendly escape to the Louisiana wetlands with coach transport back to central New Orleans.

One of the best rides ever!

Some of the best money we spent on this trip to New Orleans. The pick up and drop off are right down in the French Quarter so it is very convenient. The driver was informative and courteous and got us there and back safely. The process of getting our assigned boat was quick and we had plenty of time to relax and enjoy the views and gators from the large deck area. Our captain, Ronnie, was tremendous, full of knowledge of the bayou and quick wit. He made sure that we were safe while traversing the waterways and when we were seeing the gators. I would rate this one of the best swamp tours we have been on. Highly recommended!

We had a good time, it was pretty easy to check in, the line was long to get in but once we were onboard they were playing live music on the top deck, then a live amazing pianist in the first floor, drinks and snacks available if you didn't purchase the ticket that includes a meal. Beautiful views, I'd definitely recommend.

November Tour

Amazing tour guide! Very scenic views. Only downside, wish we were able to interact with gators more. The season changing is partially the blame. Would appreciate a heads up, to adjust expectations. Would still go again, just a different time of year.

This was a great tour. And our guide was the best. Lots of gators to see. I wanted to buy our picture in a magnet but would only sell the entire packet and not just one picture. The only thing they should change
